Meet #mumboss Tegan from Relax Unwind Massage
Meet Tegan Charles the owner of Relax and Unwind Massage
"I am a busy mum of two beautiful boys. They light up my world and are the reason I do what I do. We are currently building our dream home in Kinglake and are looking forward to finally being able to move in early next year. After spending seven years down by the beach we decided we wanted our kids to grow up with the fresh country air.
After I had my first child I was judged a lot for being a young mum and found it very hard to get back into the working world. I found this so heart breaking because being a mum is my proudest achievement.
So I took matters into my own hands and went off to study my diploma of remedial massage and certificate IV in business. Then continued onto a short course of beauty, product making and sales.
Today I am the proud owner of "Relax and Unwind Massage" where I offer massage and beauty treatments as well as group pamper packages for all occasions. To add to my busy to do list, I also hand make a range of beautiful candles, melts, bath salts and bath bombs. I take great pride in what I do and love seeing my clients leave relaxed and feeling amazing. It’s a really good feeling knowing that your helping some improve how they are feeling!
"For me the best part for being a mum boss is the flexibility. Being able to block out time for important things that the kids have on and not having to explain myself. I really love what I do so getting to know my clients on a personal level and being able to accomodate there needs and to offer flexibility is so important.
Work life balance is something that I do find hard to manage. Because my studio is on our property most of the time I don’t leave to go to work. So for me having a studio that I love and a space that works for me is a great way to step into work mood, but the phone is always going off. So I have a rule that after 6pm I put the phone down and shut the laptop off to make sure that the time I am spending with the family I am actually present in the moment. I also only work two weekends a month and two nights a week to allow myself time with the family. After all they are the reason I do what I do.
My advice for other mums looking to branch out on their own would be to do it now! Stop putting it on your to do list. There will never be a “right time” believe in yourself and go for it, you have nothing to lose!"
